iPad Basics

Here are some basics on how to use your iPad register, and ShopKeep's Back Office once you've downloaded and activated your register to your iPad.

The register is separate from the Back Office.  You ring sales on the register, and manage inventory and run reports from the Back Office.  The register is an application that sits on your iPad, and the Back Office is a web site you can log into from anywhere with internet access.  Registers can work for cash sales while not connected to the internet.   You can not manage inventory or run reports unless you're online, and logged into the BackOffice.  Your BackOffice login and password were created when you started your trial with ShopKeep.  If you've forgotten your login, you have it in the email you were sent on signing up.  The web address for your Back Office is [storename].shopkeepapp.com .  It's a good idea to bookmark that if you can.

If you signed up, and didn't get an email telling you to activate your account, check your spam folder.  If there's no activation email in your spam folder, chances are you mistyped your email address when creating your account.  Let us know and we'll fix that for you.

The first thing to do with the register is to get familiar with its basic functions.  There are two types of accounts on the register - the manager, and the cashier.  Managers can open and close shifts, run drop/payout features (Safe Drop, Payout, and Buy Inventory) ring "No Sales" and update the inventory while a shift is open.  To log in as a manager after you've created your account and downloaded your register, enter your manager login, which is the last 4 digits of the phone number you used when creating the account.

It's important to note that your inventory won't show on your register unless 2 things happen - (1) you enter an inventory with the right Kwik Code (you can learn about that here) and (2) you either close and open a shift, or update the inventory as a manager when a shift is open.  Unless those things happen, your inventory will not show up on the register!  Also, please don't modify the open items or shipping items with Kwik codes.  They need to stay the way they are.  IMPORTANT - To see these items, you must be logged in as a cashier!

Cashiers can ring sales, and run returns.  If you've just created your account, and are not sure how to log in as a cashier - it's simple.  It's the last 3 digits of the phone number you used when creating the account.

If you've entered inventory items in the Back Office already, your inventory should be there, as long as you followed the steps listed above.  If you've not yet entered inventory, you'll see the 3 standard open items - Misc Taxable, Misc Non-Taxable, and Shipping.  Go ahead and tap "Misc Non-Taxable" and enter a price of $1.00.  Then hit "cash".  You'll see the amount due, and an amount tendered.  Hitting enter right from there puts in $1.00, and rings the sale.  You'll have the option to printing a receipt, and going on the the next customer.

That's it!  your first sale has been rung up.

If your iPad is connected to a wireless network, a sale should show up in your Back Office in a few moments.

If you need to run a return, tap the "arrow coming out of a rectangle" button near the top right of the screen.  You enter the item(s) to be returned, and hit "return".  That's all there is to it.
